Technical Studies

Katherine high School has a well equipped Technology and Design facility including two woodwork rooms, a metalwork and a technical drawing and design room. The workshops allow students access to a range of industrial equipment and power tools including gas and electric welding, sheet-metal folding machines and metal turning lathes. The woodwork area has a full range of power tools and machinery for project construction, wood turning and timber preparation. All three workshops are spacious and fitted with fans and evaporative air-conditioning.

Students study short courses at Year 7, 8 and 9 level but thereafter Design and Technology is an elective subject offering courses in Year 10 through to Year 11. Students are predominantly engaged in practical activity, constructing projects which reflect their own design decisions. A strong emphasis is placed on safe working practices.
The school workshops are also used to deliver Vocational, Educational and Training (VET) subjects such as the Certificate 1 in Engineering.
