All Students at KHS complete core units in Music during Year 8 after which music becomes an elective subject allowing one semester courses of study through to Year 11. Most students engage in learning an instrument and
performing in rock music ensembles. Performances are held at
whole school assemblies and at public venues in katherine.

Students also have the opportunity to learn a
musical instrument through the NT School of Music.
Instruments can be hired and individual tuition is timetables
to fit with students studies. In most cases students elect to join the school concert band which rehearses regularly and performs at a number of events throughout the school year.

The music Facilities at KHS consist of a general music room adjoined by 3 soundproof rooms. The soundproof rooms allow Students to practice without disturbing each other and the rest of the school. Students are able to learn a vairety of instruments including electric and accoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard and vocals.
